Beauty counters are the busiest corner of any duty-free hall, and the one where a little preparation pays off most. Here is how to shop them well when you only have a few minutes before boarding.
Testing a fragrance properly
- Spray on a blotter first, then on skin only for the two or three you like most.
- Wait a few minutes: the top notes fade fast and the heart of the scent appears.
- Do not sniff the coffee beans between every bottle; a short break in fresh air works better.
Why travel-exclusive sets exist
Brands make coffret sets, duo packs and 30 ml sizes only for travel retail. They are priced per millilitre below the standard bottle and are the easiest way to try a new scent or to give two gifts from one purchase.
Skincare and make-up
Ask for the production date on skincare; a fresh batch matters more than a small discount. Many counters carry the same shade ranges as the brand boutiques, and staff can match foundation under daylight-balanced lamps.
Liquids and your flight
Perfume and lotions are liquids. Bought after security at your departure airport, they go into a sealed bag with the receipt; if you connect through another airport, keep the bag sealed until the final destination. Buying at the arrival shop avoids the question entirely.
A 100 ml bottle in a sealed duty-free bag is fine on a connecting flight within most regions, as long as the seal is intact and the receipt is inside.
